Window Treatments for Small Spaces
Today, more than ever before, it’s essential to be aware of your carbon footprint. For many people, this means living in smaller housing spaces. You may think that a small living space means having to have minimalist-style window treatments, or perhaps none at all. We’re here to tell you that that’s not the case. We’ve put together some ways to make the most of your space with window treatments.
The first tip is to hang your window treatments high and wide. Placing your window treatment hardware too close to the window is a prevalent mistake. Our professional designers will suggest you hang your curtains a few inches below the ceiling and extend them past each side of the window frame by several inches. This placement will ensure your curtains frame the window, rather than taking up space inside it and blocking out light.
Opting for sheer window coverings is another easy way to make the most of your space. Light colors reflect light to give a room the illusion of being larger, and sheer panels or shades give rooms a light, airy feeling. If you are concerned about privacy, Silhouette® and Pirouette® Window Shadings from Hunter Douglas have adjustable fabric vanes that allow you to enjoy natural light while also having privacy. Heavier window treatments, like drapery, will take away from the space and light you have available and make your room appear cramped.
